There was a time when I was ranked 30th in my college class. Today, I lead a tech company — Minterminds. And if you ask me what made the biggest difference in this journey, it wasn’t talent. It was communication. Yes, communication is very powerful tool. It plays important role in every field. Let’s know how this tool help me to grow in my professional life.

When Reality Hit Me Hard

I still remember my school days clearly.

I came from a Punjabi-medium government school, and back then, I was known as the “intelligent kid.” I used to top my class, and everything felt under control.

But the moment I entered college, things changed.

  • New city
  • Completely new environment
  • English lectures everywhere
  • Students from different, more advanced backgrounds

It felt like I had stepped into a different world.

And suddenly, I wasn’t the topper anymore.

I dropped to rank 30 out of 50 students.

That phase shook me.

For the first time in my life, I started doubting myself. This is not the story of Dinesh Kumar, I think this is the story of every student who enters in the new environment.

The Shift That Changed Everything

I had two choices:

  • Either accept that I wasn’t good enough
  • Or find a new way to grow

That’s when I realized something that changed my life:

Maybe I’m not the most talented person in the room anymore… but I can become the most connected.

This single thought became my turning point.

How I Built My Strength

I started doing things I was uncomfortable with.

I began talking more.

  • I started asking questions in class
  • I interacted more with my teachers
  • I built genuine relationships with my classmates
  • I helped others whenever I could

At first, communication felt like a challenge, especially because of my background.

But I didn’t stop.

Slowly, things started changing.

  • My professors began guiding me more
  • My friends started sharing notes and insights
  • I became part of a supportive circle

And most importantly, I started gaining confidence.

My Comeback

With better communication and stronger connections, my performance improved.

I didn’t become the most talented overnight.

But I became someone who:

  • Learned faster
  • Understood better
  • Collaborated more

And eventually, I moved from rank 30 to the top 7 in my class.

That moment wasn’t just about marks.

It was proof that growth is possible when you change your approach.

What This Journey Taught Me

Today, as I build and lead Minterminds, I still carry that lesson with me every single day.

Here’s what I truly believe:

  • Talent may open the first door
  • Communication keeps doors opening

Success is not just about what you know.

It’s about:

  • How you express your ideas
  • How well you listen
  • How you build trust with people

Why Communication Matters More Than Ever

In my journey with Minterminds, I’ve seen this again and again:

  • The best opportunities come through conversations
  • The strongest teams are built on understanding
  • The most successful people know how to connect

Technical skills are important, no doubt.

But communication is what amplifies those skills.

My Message to You

If you are in a phase where you feel you’re not the best in the room, I want you to remember this:

You don’t need to be the smartest person.

You need to be the most willing to learn, connect, and grow.

Because sometimes, the skill that changes your life is not what you study…

It’s how you communicate.
